Hater 😈
It really does feel good to be a hater. Use this song to express your joy over being a hater.
Hate to report people are really enjoying using a Trump quote as a sound to make fun of Ron DeSantis. Does that cancel out the Trump of it all?

🗣️ The Moment 🗣️
Issues that are at the forefront of online discourse— beans.
We’re gonna talk about beans.
Not bean dad. He has not returned, thankfully. But a completely different inane social media fiasco starring beans.
A creator (@vibingranolamom) posted a bean soup recipe. It was meant to be high in iron and ideal for your period. Now, I very much agree that a giant pot of every-bean-in-the-world is the last thing I’d want to eat, but that’s where I left the video when it turned up on my fyp. Unfortunately, our brains have been rotting over the last few years and so this bean soup became a thing.
TikTok users began asking what they should do if they don’t like beans. You might think the answer would be obvious. Don’t eat the bean soup! Have something else! Take an iron supplement! But no, on social media everything must apply to everyone.
As a wise man once tweeted…
Another creator summed up the ridiculousness of the barrage of requests for bean alternatives with the suggestion to just buy a can of chicken noodle.

The bean drama interests me only so far as it illustrates ‘extremely online’ behavior. When something is posted to TikTok or Twitter (X, for all you blue checks) users often react as if the tweet or video was sent directly to them. I.e made for them. Which means they make demands of creators to be broad and universal. If a creator is specific or offers something that does not apply to the user, too often the user will comment demanding the recognition of all other experiences. The coffee-in-the-garden Twitter drama from last year is another perfect example of this behavior online.
This behavior isn’t good for anyone. Not for the creators who might receive hate, or for audiences whose communication is being warped by social media. We need to intervene. Our online communities shouldn’t be like this. We should be able to have our coffee and show our bean soup recipes in peace.

🥡 The Takeaway 🥡
You’re in their DM’s, I’m in their comment section.
My social media advice this week? Comment.
That’s right, I’m suggesting being social on social media. Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.
As simple as this advice is, I come back to it regularly. There are hundreds of social media manager accounts out there promising you that TikTok has changed and they know what’s happening and how to fix it. In reality, we’re all in the dark on TikTok’s regular algorithmic changes. We can take educated guesses and do trials, but we don’t really know what will make an account thrive. What we do have are the basics. Post good content and be engaged on the platform.
Ryanair and Duolingo are both wildly successful accounts. There are many reasons. From their absurdist humor to the ‘heating’ of corporate accounts. But one thing that really works for them is commenting. They’re a constant presence in comment sections on popular videos especially when they can somehow connect their brand to that content. The more ‘regular person’ and humorous the comment the more chance that folks will feel the need to follow. You’re proving yourself as a capable social presence. If done well, it won’t even elicit the ‘silence, brand’ response. And what more could you ask for, really?
